The Pantone Color Institute
As a unit within Pantone, the Pantone Color Institute gauges color trends, selects the Color of the Year, and advises businesses on product and visual identity colors. They weigh current climate, past behaviors, and past trends to reach a decision on what color they expect the upcoming year to call for. This year, they arrived at Viva Magenta, which is a “nuanced crimson tone” that “vibrates with vim and vigor” and is a balance of warm and cool. An “unconventional shade for an unconventional time,” Viva Magenta is “an animated red that encourages experimentation and self-expression without restraint.”
Using This Year’s Color
The executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, notes that, with all the technology around us, this year, we will especially “look to draw inspiration from nature.” Rooted in the “primordial,” she adds, Viva Magenta “reconnects us to original matter…It galvanizes our spirit, helping us to build our inner strength.” Because Pantone selects a color that reflects trends across numerous industries—including fashion, beauty, technology, design, and home décor—you’ll be seeing Viva Magenta all around in the very near future.
