After the unique year that 2020 was, many people are hoping for something more hopeful in 2021. And to that end, as it has every year for the past 22 years, the Pantone Color Institute has selected a trending color for the year. The trending color speaks to our mindset and desires for the upcoming year. And this year, the Institute has chosen dual colors, something that has happened only once before. At Treasure Coast Window Fashions serving Stuart, Florida, we’re always happy to help our customers understand color and its impact on our lives. Read on to learn about the Color(s) of the Year for 2021!
PANTONE 17-5104 Ultimate Gray and PANTONE 13-0647 Illuminating
The two colors—a nature-evoking gray and a bright sunny yellow—might seem like an odd match. However, in a news release, Pantone called them “two independent colors that come together to create an aspirational color pairing, conjoining deeper feelings of thoughtfulness with the optimistic promise of a sunshine filled day.” The colors are a “marriage of strength and optimism” that combine warm and cool tones: The gray evokes a sense of solid and dependable natural elements, such as pebbles on a beach or weather-worn barnwood, and the yellow is bright, cheerful, and vivacious, evoking a sense of the solar power of the sun.
Using Ultimate Gray and Illuminating in Interior Design
The neutral gray can set the stage—consider painting a wall or all of the walls in Ultimate Gray or get a large piece of furniture such as a sofa in the dark gray. Then you can add accents of the bright yellow in large or small amounts. Select various décor pieces, bits of artwork, throw blankets, and pillows. Or add accents of yellow paint to various walls, doorframes, or even doors. You can also consult the Pantone site for suggestions on complementary color palettes that will create an entire color story for your room. Also look to window fashions to frame out your window in the year’s hues. Check out the Design Studio™ from Hunter Douglas for options, including Gray-wood or Storm Grays in Rebecca Atwood’s collection, Saffron in the Transcend collection, or Fresco in the Wilson collection.
