Although it’s always a dream to be able to make large, sweeping changes to a home all at once, in reality, it can be tough to figure out how to start. At Treasure Coast Window Fashions, we know it can be daunting to approach remodeling tasks, but we have a few ideas for how to start below. Read on!
Determining What to Renovate
For many of our clients, it’s tough to envision being able to just pick up and move to a new space, so remodeling might be a better option for making the home livable and more enjoyable. To determine what or whether to remodel, determine the following:
- The best and worst parts of the home.
- The things you would like to change—including whether you think they need a full-blown renovation or just touchups.
- How you will live during the remodel, including whether you’ll stay in the home, and the elements you’ll need to use to maintain a “normal” life.
- Whether you want to do everything all at once, or if you anticipate breaking it up into several projects. If you decide to break it up, determine the most pressing element and how soon you want it done.
- Decide if there are elements you’re confident you could do on your own.
- Figure out a solid budget.
Choosing Your Contractors
If you’re planning to hire contractors, be sure to do some homework to contract with people you’ll be happy with. We’ve all heard the horror stories about shoddy workmanship or unfinished work. Find professionals who will listen to you and make your project a priority. Get solid referrals from friends and neighbors, and really consider if the lowest bid is the best choice. Although many contractors can and do provide quality work at better rates, sometimes you really do get what you pay for (and not necessarily in a good way). Same goes for products like flooring, cabinetry, and appliances. Be sure to find out the ins and outs of warranty and lifetime repair specifics.
Consider Incremental Steps
Now might not be your best time for a huge remodel, but that doesn’t mean you can’t dip your toe in the water with a smaller project or two. Simply changing a room’s color could reinvigorate how you see the space. The same holds true for reupholstering your furniture or simply making a shift to your décor. Upgrading your window fashions can really make a room sing, by altering how light comes into your room and giving it a bright new feel. Great light-diffusing options include Silhouette® Shadings and the new Aria™ Soft Blinds, both of which are aesthetically appealing while offering great light and privacy control and excellent view-through. Our skilled professionals can guide you through the selection process to ensure that you find the right product to suit your needs and budget, and our experienced installers can help ensure the precise fit for your windows.
