With so many costs on the rise—from the grocery store to streaming TV—many folks are finding more important than ever to try to cut back on expenses. At Treasure Coast Window Fashions, we know that desire all too well. That’s why we’re offering suggestions on making a home more energy-efficient, to cut back on energy bills. Check out our ideas below!
Insulation
If your home isn’t insulated properly, external temperatures can impact it more, making it hard to maintain the atmosphere you want in a room. Upgrading your insulation can help keep your indoor temperatures more stable. If you want to go a step further, you could choose cellulose or sheep’s wool insulation, which are excellent insulators and are more eco-friendly.
Lighting
Traditional incandescent light bulbs typically use up to 90% more energy than LED bulbs. On top of that, LED bulbs usually last longer, so won’t have to replace them as often.
Water Heater
If you upgrade to a tankless water heater, which heats water on demand versus constantly, you can potentially reduce your water-heating costs by up to 30%.
Landscaping
Using only native species in your landscaping could mean a reduction in watering and fertilization. Plus, you’ll be supporting local ecosystems while you surround your home in a low-maintenance landscape.
Seal Leaks
If you have air leaks around your windows and doors, they can cause up to as much as 40% of your home energy costs for heating in the winter and cooling in the summer. If you seal the leaks, your indoor temps will be more stable, helping to decrease your energy bills.
Windows
If you have air leaks around your windows (and doors, for that matter), you could be losing as much as 40% of your home energy costs. Sealing those leaks can help reduce that issue. Another approach is to protect your windows with insulating treatments. Hunter Douglas offers some excellent options that are stylish yet also protective, and there’s a chance your purchase can qualify for a government rebate (contact your tax professional to be sure). Choices include:
- Sonnette™ Cellular Roller Shades. Streamlined like a roller shade, Sonnette gently diffuses light through an innovative, curved shape. Available in 48 colors (from whites to brights) and in semi-opaque and room-darkening opacities, Sonnette Cellular Roller Shades will enhance any space.
- Duette® Honeycomb Shades. Energy-efficient, beautiful, and functional, Duette honeycomb shades trap air in their honeycomb pockets to help keep rooms cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
- Applause® Honeycomb Shades. Unlike some other brands of cellular shades, Applause is created with a double cell, which offers increased insulation over regular single-cell construction.
