When it comes to painting a room, be aware that the overall look isn’t just about the main color on the walls. Instead, it’s about how the color comes together in the accents and details of a room. At Treasure Coast Window Fashions serving Jensen Beach, we have a few tips for how to think about some of those details—check them out below.
Selecting Color For Your Design
If you’re choosing more than one color, how they might come together. A color wheel is a helpful tool—it can show you the relationships between colors so you can know what will go well together. Complementary colors appear directly across the wheel from each other, while analogous colors appear colors next to each other. Also consider the vibe of the room—do you want bold, bright colors to create energy, or do you want mellower colors, to create a sense of repose?
Color and Baseboards
Many people don’t consider it, but baseboards are a part of the whole look in a room. And you don’t just have to keep them white; you can actually add some great depth to your room by adding baseboard color as well. Just remember that consistency is the key—you don’t necessarily have to use the same colors throughout your house, just within each room, to create a seamless feel in the space. Here are a few things to consider for color:
- Stain. Stain brings in a “real wood” feel for the baseboards and creates a rich, warm, traditional look in the room. With light-colored walls, choose a lighter stain, and with dark-colored walls, choose a darker stain.
- Off-white. Especially if you’ve chosen a dark color for the wall, using cream, ivory, or off-white can be a good offset. Because these lighter colors could be tinged with blue or pink undertones, be sure to speak with a color professional to get the right shade.
- Dark colors. Using dark colors for the baseboards creates a contemporary look for the room. It’s especially good for small spaces because it can add depth.
Window Coverings
Much like with baseboards, window coverings can add dimension to your overall room color. For bright, bold colors on the walls, a neutral window fashion can add balance. Duette® Cellular Shades are offered in numerous neutral colors to enhance a room. Or, if neutral-colored walls, think about window coverings with a hint of color or pattern to add visual interest.
