If you’re looking for treatments for a bedroom or a media room, chances are, you’re looking for something that will get the room as dark as possible—after all, most people sleep better in darker rooms, and less glare is better for a computer screen or television. At Treasure Coast Window Fashions serving Jensen Beach, we know how important room-darkening can be, so we’ve got a few ideas for how to achieve it. Read on to learn more!
Treatments to Consider
Solid shades are some of the best choices for room-darkening. For example, roller shades work well, especially if you choose a specific room-darkening fabric. Cellular shades, like Duette® Honeycomb Shades, give you the added benefit of insulating the window, helping to keep your energy costs down, even when it’s very hot outside. And Vignette® Modern Roman Shades offer luxurious folds that help reduce incoming light.
Additional Options to Block Light
Although all window treatments offer some level of light-blocking, some do it better than others, chiefly because of fabric type and color. Sheer fabrics filter light, semi-opaque offer some privacy protection and some filtering, and opaques block the most (but not all) light. To improve how the treatment works against light, consider some other things. For one, mount the treatment outside of the window frame instead of inside it. Or you can add drapery or side panels. You can also add a room-darkening liner, available on most Hunter Douglas shades; the liner can be sewn onto the shade or you can have the option of letting it operate independently. Hunter Douglas has also designed some ways to reduce gaps, such as the Duette® LightLock™ system for Duette Honeycomb Shades, which absorbs light and prevents it from entering the room.
